Same Day Teeth: Is It Possible To Get a Dental Implant in One Visit?

It almost sounds too good to be true, but it is possible to get same day teeth with dental implants. You can thank a revolutionary dental implant technique known as Immediate Function. It is a safe and highly successful procedure and dentists have been using it for over a decade now.

Same day teeth allow patients to restore their smile with a single visit to the dentist. That is a huge deal giving how important having a set of healthy-looking teeth is. It is one of the first things people notice when you interact with them, and people often make assumptions about a person based on the condition of their teeth.

Dental implants are one of the most effective ways to replace missing teeth. It is not the cheapest option, but implants are a permanent solution that can last a lifetime with proper maintenance. Unlike other dental prosthetics that come with time-consuming procedures to clean the teeth, taking care of dental implants is not much different than taking care of your natural teeth. Implants look, feel and function just like your real teeth.

Traditional vs. same day teeth implants

It often takes a few months to have traditional implants installed in your mouth. That means you might have to deal with having a missing tooth/teeth until the process is complete. With same day implants, things are very different.

When you choose same day implants, your dentist will use 3D CT technology to create a temporary crown you will use with your implant. This temporary crown will look and function just like your natural teeth, and it serves as a temporary solution until the implant has fully fused with your jawbone. Still, by the time the first appointment is over, you will have a brand new smile that looks natural.

Are there major differences between traditional and same day teeth implants?

Traditional implants and same-day implants are not that different. Both require X-rays to ensure proper placement of the implant and both take a few months to fuse with your jawbone to make them permanent. The main difference between the two is that you get your implant and crown during a single visit with same-day implants.

That does not mean it takes only a single visit to get same-day-teeth. Like traditional implants, it also requires an initial consultation, an appointment to attach your permanent crown and follow-up appointments to make sure everything is working properly. Once your implant heals and fuses with your jawbone, we can fit your permanent crown. From that point on, there is not any noticeable difference between traditional and same day options.

Who qualifies for same-day implants?

People who qualify for traditional implants typically also qualify for same-day implants. You will need to have:

  • Healthy bone tissue that can support the implant
  • A healthy mouth since that facilitates healing
  • Healthy jawbone that is strong enough to support the temporary crown
